Amon L. Petty

Amon L. Petty, 83, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2009, at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine. He was born May 30, 1926, in Lawrenceville, Illinois to the late Floyd B. and Cella (Garnet) Petty.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Carr) Petty, whom he married December 28, 1951, in Richmond, Indiana. Also surviving are five sons, Mark A. of Bellefontaine, Timothy L. (Susan) of Beavercreek, Ohio, Robin M. of Bellefontaine, Douglas O. of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Christopher F. (Barbara) Petty of Sidney, Ohio; a sister, Christine Dill of Bellefontaine; nine grandchildren, Megan Jacobs, Maridith, Molly, Joshua, Michele, Heidi, Ryan, Clay, and Joseph Petty; three great grandchildren, Tristin and Sophia Jacobs and Elijah Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delores Miller Petty and their infant son in 1950; a brother, Louis Petty; and sisters, Mary Norviel and Marceline Anderson.

After forty four years of service, he retired from the United States Postal Service in Bellefontaine. A Navy veteran, serving in World War II, he was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the B.P.O. Elks in Bellefontaine and was an avid golfer.

Calling hours are Thursday, December 10, 2009, from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. A funeral mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, December 11, 2009, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bellefontaine, with Rev. Patrick Sheridan officiating. Burial will follow service in the Calvary Cemetery with military services by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
