Betty Jane (Piatt) Freese

Betty Jane (Piatt) Freese, 88, of Centerville, Ohio, passed away at 7:40 P.M. Monday, October 26, 2009, at the Liberty Retirement Community in Centerville. She was born in Champaign County November 4, 1920, to the late Jacob I. and Mina Pearl Shanley Piatt. On March 1, 1946, she married James E. Freese whom preceded her in death.

Mrs. Freese graduated from Monroe Township High School and the Toledo State Hospital with a Licensed Practical Nursing Degree. She retired from Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Ohio, where she worked as a LPN for twenty years. She attended the Kingscreek Baptist Church in Kingscreek, Ohio, volunteered at Community Hospital in Springfield and made blankets and clothes for Elderly United in Springfield.          

Survivors include two sons, John E. (Marty) Piatt of Centerville, and Gale L. (Jeane) Freese of Huber Heights, Ohio; grandchildren, J. David Piatt of Kent, Washington, Diane J. Piatt of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Daniel J. (Kristen) Piatt of Bellevue, Washington; a great granddaughter, Faith Audrey Piatt; two special nieces, Eleanor Jane McGuire of Urbana, Ohio, and Sharynn Patterson of North Vernon, Indiana; two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Piatt of Mason, Ohio, and Betty Phyllis Piatt of North Vernon, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert James Freese; a sister, Mildred Reid; and three brothers, Jacob Piatt, II, Robert Piatt and Ben Piatt. 

The funeral service will be Friday, November 6, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty, Ohio, with Pastor Garland Wilkerson officiating. Calling will be one hour prior the funeral on Friday. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clark County Cancer Society  1130 Vester Avenue,  Springfield, OH 45503
