James Dietrich Detwiler

James Dietrich Detwiler, 73 of Bellefontaine, Ohio passed Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Mary Rutan Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Bellefontaine November 11, 1937, the son of the late Paul and Ava Detwiler. Jim graduated from Bellefontaine High School in1956. His love and knowledge of movies led him to a career at the Holland Theater after graduation. Jim became a fixture at the Holland and continued to work there for more than 25 years. In 2003, Jim was honored at Holland Theater Day for his many years of service. This honor filled Jim with great pride.

Jim enjoyed everything theatrical. He was a virtual encyclopedia of movie and theater history. Jim loved all the arts, from movies to plays to music of any kind.  He often traveled to New York City to see Broadway plays and kept up with theater and movie news until the day he died. Jim also loved to travel and often talked of his many trips, not only to New York City, but to London, Paris and all over Italy. Jim appreciated art and beauty. He felt Michel Angelos David was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen, except for his mother, of course. Those lucky enough to be at a party with Jim, would quickly find he loved a social event, a great meal and could keep a conversation going better than most. He loved discussing world events, politics, news of the town and, of course, movies. He was up to date and had an opinion on it all. Jim's greatest gift was that he was genuinely interested and curious about the people he met. He was honest, loyal and kind. Jim will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held Monday, January 31, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at The First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine immediately followed by a coffee hour. A private burial will take place at the Bellefontaine Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Holland Theater  127 E. Columbus Ave.  Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311

The staff at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine handled the arrangements.
