Jose Arcardio Hernandez Jose Arcardio Hernandez, 84, went to be in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Green Hills Center in West Liberty, Ohio. He was born in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic June 10, 1927, to the late Jose Hernandez and Anna Vasquez-Hernandez. Through the faithful witness of a missionary at the age of 14, Jose heard the Gospel and trusted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was born to new life in Jesus Christ. When Jose was nineteen years of age, he immigrated to New York. In 1950, he joined the United States Army and attained the rank of staff Sergeant in the engineer corp. while serving during the Korean War. Upon returning, he married Edith Billson December 6, 1952 in Brooklyn, New York. He was a member of the Gideons in New York, the Babylon New York VFW, Capilla Evangelica 116th Street, New York, New York, and the Fort Lauderdale Bible Chapel. Upon returning from the war, he married his wife of fifty eight years, Edith Billson, December 6, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York and she survives in West Liberty along with their five children: Dr. Richard (Lisa) Hernandez of Jacksonville, Florida, Pastor David (Joanne) Hernandez of West Liberty, Nelson (Andrea) Hernandez of Marlington, West Virginia, and Helena (Marco) DePinho of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. A daughter-in-law also survives, Linda Hernandez of Shirley, New York. Jose is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a brother Juan Carlos, Hernandez of Queens, New York. He was preceded in death by a son Stephen Hernandez and a sister, Lucy Silfa. The family would like to thank Green Hills Center for their great service and the care extended to Jose and Edith. A graveside service was held Thursday, July 7, 2011, at the Dayton National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 10, 2011, at the Union Chapel Community Church in West Liberty at 2 P.M. with Pastor David Hernandez officiating.
