Mary E. Fraser

Mary E. Fraser, age 89, of  Zanesfield, Ohio, passed away at 6:45 A.M. Monday, November 15, 2010, at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She was born in Zanesfield, Ohio March 1, 1921, to the late Lee and Florence Polk Pennock.

Survivors include a son, Don (Beth) Fraser of Marysville, Ohio; step-sons, Philip R. (Marilyn) Moots of Columbus, Ohio, and Rev. Paul (Robin) Moots of Mt. Sterling, Ohio; a step-daughter, Nita (Jim) Kincaid of Sierra Madre, California; grandchildren, Shea and Tess Fraser; a sister, Pim (Ned) King of West Liberty, Ohio; and nieces Rebecca Becky (Mike) Nessler of Bellefontaine, Jane (Bob) Vest of Troy, Ohio and Nancy (Nicholas) McGuire of West Liberty. She was preceded in death by her brother Elwood.

After graduating from high school, Mary attended Asbury College, then transferred to Ohio University where she completed her degree in education. After graduating from college, her adventurous and pioneering spirit took her to northern Ireland where, as a young teacher, she spent a year teaching abroad. It was there that she met her first husband, Bill, who followed her back to the states where they wed June 11, 1949. Bill preceded her in death July 31, 1993.

She was regal, while at the same time, humble. While in Ireland, she traveled to England and had the honor of having tea with the Queen of England. From learning how to curtsey, to how to properly hold a tea cup, the day was a day beyond all others. She was a true friendship ambassador of the American youth of her day.

She was not afraid of trying new places and things. She never passed judgment on others and respected the differences that she strove to understand. She gave hope to others with her words of kindness and wisdom and was definitely a romantic at heart.

Mary didnt know a stranger. She would always find something in common with anyone she met. When friends would visit at the farm, she was warm and welcoming and always eager to listen. She would always offer to share whatever she might have stewing on her stove.

She retired from teaching in 1987 from Benjamin Logan Schools and was a member of the Zanesfield United Methodist Church. She taught religious education in Logan County schools for a number of years before returning to teaching full-time. Her devotion to the church directed her life.

Seven years after Bills death, Mary married her second husband, Philip K. Moots July 10, 1999. They enjoyed many happy years together. He preceded her in death April 2, 2007.

Mary was extremely proud of her granddaughters, Shea and Tess. She had photos of them throughout her house and her residence at Green Hills, and a story to go along with every picture.

Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved life, family, nature and God.

Rev. Bonnie Frost and Rev. Brian Wood will conduct the funeral service Friday, November 19, 2010, at 10:30 A.M. at the Zanesfield United Methodist Church in Zanesfield. A dear family friend and highly regarded pianist, Nightengale Chen, will perform classical and sacred music beginning at 10:00 A.M. Calling hours will be held Thursday, November 18, 2010 from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zanesfield United Methodist Church  2880 Main Street  Zanesfield, OH 43360; Green Hills Care Center  6557 US Highway 68 S  West Liberty, OH 43357-9536; or to a charity of choice.

The funeral arrangements were handled by the staff at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine.
