Mary Lillian Magnuson

Mary Lillian Hutslar Magnuson, 89, of Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011, at her home. She was born in Dayton, Ohio, January 4, 1922, to the late Pearl Vinson Hutslar and Lillian Imogene Vaughn Hutslar.

On December 28, 1941, she married John L. Magnuson in York, South Carolina, and he passed away June 23, 1995. She also was preceded in death by her only brother, Andrew V. Hutslar, and one grandchild, Kathleen E. Magnuson.

Survivors include sons, James D. (Carol Hogan) Magnuson of Warren, Michigan, and Terry L. (Patty) Magnuson of Ft. Myers Beach; daughters, Linda Joy Cullison of Lee�s Summit, Missouri, April E. Magnuson of Ft. Myers and Nancy C. Magnuson of Bellefontaine; ten grandchildren, and thriteen great-grandchildren.

A 1939 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Dayton, Mary worked twenty five years in Bellefontaine for Dr. George Gensemer, M.D., as a medical assistant and secretary.

She was active in fellowship with the Pilot Class at the First Christian Church and a leader in its youth Christian education program. She also was very active with the Appleseed Ridge Girl Scout Council, serving as council president and leading troops of girls for more than thirty five years. In the 1970s, she also co-founded the Merry Day Camp, a summer activities program for children in need. Since retiring to Ft. Myers Beach, she has been an active member of the Chapel by the Sea Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service to celebrate her life with family and friends will be held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Bellefontaine. The graveside service will follow at 2:30 P.M. at the Bellefontaine Cemetery in Bellefontaine, Ohio, with Pastor Gene Marine conducting the service.
