Richard T. Newland

Richard T. Newland, 86, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away Friday, August 21, 2009, at Heartland of Bellefontaine. He was born October 7, 1922, in Urbana, Ohio, a son of the late Helen Jacobs Newland Morgan Grimes. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Newland; a brother, Harold Newland; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.

On June 16, 1946, he married the former Maxine Morgan in Springfield, Ohio, and she survives, along with two daughters, Pamela (Ron) Horne and Lori Geho, both of Bellefontaine; a son, Rick Newland of Bellefontaine; four grandsons, R.J. Horne, Scott (Missy) Horne, and Dustin Geho, all of Bellefontaine, and Brandon Horne of Kenton, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Jordan Horne of Zanesfield, Ohio, and Christopher Horne, Shelby Horne, Hallee Horne, Kelly Horne and Dennis Horne, all of Bellefontaine; two sisters, Betty Miller of Bellefontaine, and Gerry McBrien of Bellefontaine; brothers and sisters-in-law Richard (Zaida) Morgan of Urbana, Dorothy (Harry) Lease of Hilliard, Ohio, John Morgan of Bellefontaine, Jim (Barb) Morgan of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Mary Ann Downing of Bellefontaine, and Danny (Kay) Morgan of Bellefontaine; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He worked for the Miller Lumber Company before joining the United States Navy in May 1943. He served until January 1946, and toured Africa, Great Britain, Scotland and all around the Pacific Ocean. Upon returning home, he worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation from March 1946 until his retirement in 1987.

Per his wishes, Richard�s body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, August 30, 2009, at the Huntsville United Methodist Church in Huntsville, Ohio.  An optional covered dish dinner will precede the service.
